Franklin Hockenbarger, 90, of Kendallville died Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at 12:27 p.m. in Provena Sacred Heart Home, Avilla, where he had resided for two months.

Mr. Hockenbarger was a lifetime area resident. He retired in 1983 after 27 years with the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 2749 and American Legion Post 381.

He was born September 17, 1920, in Kendallville to Joseph and Elsie (Owen) Hockenbarger. On October 6, 1951, in Kendallville he married Betty Niswander.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Hockenbarger of Avilla; a sister Leona Patterson of Avilla; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Hornett and Iva H. Diehl and a brother, John Hockenbarger.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at 10 a.m. in Orange Cemetery, Rome City, with the Chaplain of VFW Post 2749 officiating. Military graveside services will be provided by VFW Post 2749, American Legion Post 381, and active duty members of the U.S. Army.

There will be no calling.

Funeral arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
