Frances R. Hernandez, 80, of Topeka, Indiana, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at her residence.

She was born December 22, 1944, in Kendallville, Indiana, to William Francis and Helen (Spackman) Lock.

In 1990, she married Joe E. Hernandez. He survives in Topeka.

She spent many years working at Starcraft in Topeka. It was there that she met the love of her life, Joe. After many fulfilling years with the company, she eventually retired, carrying with her cherished memories of the people and experiences that helped shape her life.

A devoted yarn collector and talented crocheter, Frances found joy in creating handmade items that she generously shared with family, friends, and anyone in need of a warm gift. Her generosity extended far beyond her craft as she was known for giving freely of her time, her talents, and her big heart. In earlier years, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of living on the lake and tending to her garden.

Frances will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, and unwavering generosity.

Also surviving are a daughter, Brenda (Dennis) Potts of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, David (Sonya) Miller of Topeka; a stepdaughter, Sandra (Matthew) Harston of Indianapolis; three stepsons, Oscar Hernandez of Milford, Michael Hernandez of Milford, and Joe Hernandez, III of Milford; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, William (Kathy) Lock of Wakarusa.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, David Miller in 1987; a sister, Judy Hennessee; and a brother, Kenneth Lock.

A memorial service will be held Friday, December 19, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Wolcottville at a later date.
