Floyd L. "Bubby" Heltzel, 68, of Rome City died unexpectedly Friday, May 3, 2013, in his residence.
A lifetime area resident, he graduated from Kendallville High School in 1964.
He honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968.
Mr. Heltzel retired from Supreme Corporation in Goshen.
Floyd attended New Hope Baptist Church in Kendallville. He was a volunteer at the Orange Township Fire Department and retired after 37 years. He was a member of the Rome City American Legion Post 381.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He was born January 10, 1945, in Kendallville to Floyd D. and Vivian (Fockler) Heltzel. His parents survive in Rome City.
On May 4, 1968, in San Francisco, California, he married JoAnn LaConte. They would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on May 4th. She survives in Rome City.
Also surviving are a daughter, Donna Rasler of Rome City; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Michelle Heltzel of Indianapolis; two granddaughters, Sirena Conley of Michigan and Jacey Rasler of Rome City; a grandson, Tristan Conley of Rome City; a great grandson, Kaden Gillespie of Rome City; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Myrtle Kline of Cromwell and Marjorie "Margie" and Steve Herendeen of Rome City.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tricia Heltzel.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Pastor Robert Boston of New Hope Baptist Church in Kendallville officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.
Honor guard services will be provided by the Rome City American Legion Post 381 and Kendallville VFW Post 2749.
Calling is Monday, May 6, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to the Orange Township Fire Department.
