Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel.
Calling is Monday, December 22, 2014, from 2 to 8 pm. In the funeral home. ********************************************************************************** Floyd C. Handshoe, 88, of LaGrange died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at 9:36 p.m. in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
He had resided in this area most of his life, coming from Kentucky.
He was a US Army veteran, serving during World War II with the 35th Division of the 82nd Airborne Infantry. He was a double Purple Heart recipient.
Mr. Handshoe retired from the Sturgis Foundry in Sturgis, Michigan. He then worked as a security guard for Dometic in LaGrange and recently retired in October after 26 years.
He was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church in Rome City.
He was born January 21, 1926, in Quicksand, Kentucky, to Floyd and Mary (Watkins) Handshoe.
On September 17, 1960, in Hindman, Kentucky, he married Ines Jacobs. She survives in LaGrange.
Also surviving are a daughter, Kimberly Ann (Rich) Drang of Rome City; nine sons, Leslie (Pat) Handshoe of West Virginia, Ed (Debbie) Handshoe of Shipshewana, Larry Handshoe of Michigan, Roger Handshoe of Stroh, Jimmy Handshoe of LaGrange, Kevin Handshoe of Ohio, Floyd Handshoe, Jr. of LaGrange, Gregory (Brook) Handshoe of Stroh, and Brent C. Handshoe of LaGrange; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arbutus Lykins of Willard, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David Allen Handshoe and Brent Allen Handshoe; three sisters, Maudie Ritchie, Tina Sturgil, and Fannie Turner; a brother, Clyde Handshoe; and a stepbrother, Arnie Barnett.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Pastor Larry Anglemyer, Sr. of Hilltop Baptist Church in Rome City officiating. Burial will be in Woodruff Cemetery.
Honor guard services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, and active duty members of the U.S. Army.
Honorary casketbearers will be David Mahler and Michael Handshoe. Active casketbearers will be Gregory Handshoe, Ed Handshoe, Brent Handshoe, Floyd Handshoe, Roger Handshoe, and Rich Drang.
Calling is Monday, December 22, 2014, from 2 to 8 pm. In the funeral home.
