Evelyn E. Shumaker, 89, of Kendallville died Saturday, January 30, 2016, in Chandler Place, Kendallville.
She was a lifetime area resident.
Mrs. Shumaker worked for Indiana Bell Telephone, the Kendallville High School cafeteria, and retired after 22 ½ years at Kraft Foods, all in Kendallville.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville and the Charm and Chatter Extension Homemakers Club.
Evelyn taught Sunday school at St. John, sang in the choir, and was a Stephen's Minister. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and caring for her flowers.
She was born January 3, 1927, in Noble County to Kenneth and Flora (Hasselman) Gehring.
On August 24, 1947, in Kendallville she married Wilbur D. Shumaker. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna Winebrenner of Abion and Karla (Tom) Kline of Kendallville; three grandchildren, Tony(Jessa) Winebrenner, Jason (Hillary) Kline, and Arin (Ben) Shaffer; three great-grandchildren, William Kline, Freja Shaffer, and Dea Winebrenner; a great-great-granddaughter, Drayah; and two brothers, Bill (Fran) Gehring of Kendallville and Ken (Bonnie) Gehring of Kendallville.
She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Wayne Winebrenner; a granddaughter, Amy Winebrenner; and two sisters, Esther Gehring and Phyllis McCarty
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at 12 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 301 South Oak Street, Kendallville with Rev. Dr. Robert Shriner officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Gehring, Tom Kline, Jason Kline, Tony Winebrenner, Brad Gehring, and Bill Lovett.
Calling is Tuesday, February 2, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the church.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church.
Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
