Eunice Marlene Cords, 86, of Wolcottville passed from this life to the next on November 11, 2020, after sudden health complications.
She was born August 2, 1934, in Tenstrike, Minnesota, to Christian A. and Emily A. (Richardson) Ketchum.
She was married to Donald H. Cords November 23, 1955, in Winamac, Indiana. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2017.
Mrs. Cords taught for Lakeland School Corporation for 33 years with a teaching career of 42 years. She attained a BS in Music, MS in Elementary Education and a Ph.D. as a Reading Specialist. Her elementary school teaching touched thousands of students.
She was a member of the Wolcottville United Methodist Church, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, and Delta Kappa Gamma.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, writing, and instructing music. Mrs. Cords was a church organist or pianist at several local churches. Her musicality allowed her to play and instruct students in various musical instruments, including piano, concert organ, banjo, accordion, violin, and cello. She trained hundreds of students on how to play these instruments. Mrs. Cords was also voice coach to dozens of students to attain regional popularity in parts of the US. She transcribed music for those who were unable to read or write music aiding them to publish their songs.
Mrs. Cords gave all of her effort into everything she did. She was a dedicated, loving, wonderful mother and wife, providing strength and guidance to her children. Many owe much to her guidance and mentorship to their success in life.
Surviving are two daughters, Chrisanne E. Watt of Aurora, Colorado; and Michele L. Hagood of Wolcottville; two sons, Steven F. Cords of Wolcottville and Michael A. Cords of Howe; three grandchildren, Quinn and Victoria Hagood, in Texas; Ian Watt, in Colorado; and a brother, Kermit Ketchum in Arizona.
Calling is Wednesday, November 18, 2020, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, and 6:00 - 8:00 pm, at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9, Wolcottville, and one hour before the services at the church on Thursday.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 19, 2020, at 10:30 am at the Wolcottville United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Mathews officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.
Preferred memorials are to the Wolcottville United Methodist Church.
