Calling: Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel ************************************************************** Eugene "Gene" Stutzman, 75, of Kendallville died Monday, May 20, 2013, in his residence following complications from cancer treatment.
He has lived in Kendallville since 1968, coming from Topeka where he resided for three years. Prior to that, he farmed in Milford with his Dad.
Mr. Stutzman was district manager and salesman for Moorman Feeds since December, 1963.
He was President of the Meadow Lanes Landowners, Inc. He was one of the first board members of the Kendallville Day Care Center, serving for 18 years. Gene also served on the Youth for Christ Board and was a former member of Gideons. He attended Community Fellowship of Topeka.
He was a mechanic and enjoyed working on cars. He thoroughly loved his job with Moorman Feeds.
Gene always looked for opportunities to help people and minister to them. His family and church were very important to him.
He was born February 17, 1938, in Marshall County to Raymond and Katie (Yoder) Stutzman. On April 26, 1958, in Goshen, he married Shirley A. Shaum.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley A. Stutzman of Kendallville; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mark Shearer of Ligonier; a son and daughter-in-law, Lyn and Lisa (Roy) Stutzman of Topeka; three grandchildren, Lynsey (Andy Hurley) Shearer of Waldron Lake, Karisa (Michael) Estleman of Fort Wayne, and Bradley (Beth) Stutzman of Fort Wayne; a great-granddaughter, Kyrie Hurley; a great grandson, Elliot Estleman; a great grandchild due in October; two sisters, Viola (Ben) Kaiser of Milford and Fern (Lowell) Maust of Goshen; and three brothers, Edwin (Betty) Stutzman of Kokomo, Ralph (Marilyn) Stutzman of Indianapolis, and Robert (Verna) Stutzman of Cedar Hill, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Kent Eugene Stutzman; and a brother, Raymond Stutzman, Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, May 24, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the North Main Street Mennonite Church, 504 North Main Street, Nappanee with Pastor Craig Lambright, Pastor Dale Leinbach, and Pastor Lyn Stutzman officiating. Private burial will be in Yellow Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Goshen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Karisa Estleman, Lynsey Shearer, Kyrie Hurley, Elliot Estleman, Beth Stutzman, Andy Hurley, Dan Hosted, Pam Peters, Cliff Peters, John Emmert, Kirk Mortorff, Ray Stutzman, and John Graber. Active pallbearers will be Lyn Stutzman, Mark Shearer, Brad Stutzman, Michael Estleman, Don Smart, Mel Stutzman, Don Farmwald, and Ray Yoder.
Calling will be Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
