Esther Sarah Poage, 90, of Kendallville died Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 1:45 a.m. in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville with her family at her side.
Mrs. Poage was a homemaker. She attended St. John Lutheran Church, Kendallville, and was a member of the Center Chapel Ladies Aide.
She was an avid gardener, being well known for her vegetable garden. She also enjoyed hunting for morel mushrooms, and was able to find even the smallest ones.
Grandma Poage was adored by all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
She was born April 2, 1919, in Rome City to Jesse and Ada (Reidenbach) Frick. On December 24, 1938, in Cosperville, she married Roland Poage. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1997.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Jean Poage of Kendallville; three grandchildren, Cheryl & Doug Cook, Christina & Ray Patterson, and David Poage, all of Kendallville; seven great grandchildren, Shay Combs, Sarah Cook, Josh & Lyndsay Patterson, Audrey Patterson, Amanda Stowell, Richard & Terra Stowell, and Alyssa Poage; nine great great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Roberta Frick of Rome City and Helen Stiffner of Kendallville.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Chapman and Lucile Becker, and three brothers, John Frick, Don Frick, and Robert Frick.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 2 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Rev. Paul B. Griebel of St. John Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Sweet Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be David Poage, Josh Patterson, Ray Patterson, Doug Cook, Rick Stowell, and Scott Schumaker.
Calling will be Monday, March 15, 2010, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran School PTL.
