Obituary

Emmett Eugene Lovett, 92, of Kendallville died Saturday, April 21, 2018, at his residence.

A 1944 graduate of Kendallville High School, he was born January 30, 1926, to Lester C. and Dola Mae (Deetz) Lovett on the family farm where he spent his last days surrounded by friends and family.

Emmett has been a lifetime member of the Helmer United Methodist Church.

Emmett married the love of his life, Martha Jean (Schulthess) Lovett on June 6, 1947, in Garrett. The two love birds were blessed with 70 years together. She survives in Kendallville.

Also surviving are a son, William (Brenda) Lovett of Kendallville; a daughter, Julie (Tom) Woehnker of Kendallville; son-in-law, Henry Shull of Kendallville; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Hank) Dunkel of Mongo, Chandra (Pat) Haney of Noblesville, Heather (Josh) Keipper of Wolcottville, Krystal Shull of New York City, Mary Woehnker of Kendallville, and Thomas Woehnker of Indianapolis; and eleven great-grandchildren, Leyton Keipper, Nash Keipper, Landry Keipper, Abbryll Dunkel, August Dunkel, Leah Dunkel, Aidan Haney, Rheagan Haney, Adeline Haney, Reed Haney, and Royce Haney.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sandra Kay Lovett Shull.

Emmett communicated in word and deed the importance of faith, family and surrounding yourself with good people. He was a hard worker and the happiest when working on the farm that's been in the family for 160 years.

Emmett instilled many lessons into his loved ones including to work hard but still have some fun. When he gave advice, you listened. Emmett was tough, ornery, funny, generous, caring and expected the best from you. As long as you were willing to put in the work, he'd help make your dreams come true.

Emmett and Martha's home was filled with love, laughter and the best home cooked food whether entertaining friends or a family gathering. With a contagious smile and love for people, Emmett was always willing to lend a helping hand.

When the work was done, Emmett loved music, playing golf with his buddies, traveling the country in the motor home and playing horse shoes. Whether it was riding horses, motorcycles or his scooter, he had one speed - fast.

In the late 1970's, Emmett joined his kids in getting their pilots license and loved flying his plane. There was never a dull moment. With Emmett's boisterous laugh and bright personality, he made everything better.

Martha and Emmett spent many years living in their Florida home during the winter. They will always love the many friends they made at Buttonwood Bay in Sebring.

Emmett will be dearly missed but no one can deny it was a life well lived.
