Elsie Jean Fregeau, 83, of Rome City died Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 12:19 p.m. in her residence.
She was born October 23, 1933, in Chicago to Otto and Thelma (Ridley) Grenz.
Elsie was the former Village Clerk for the town of Rosemont, Illinois. She worked as a hospice chaplain, was the interim pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church in Cromwell, and was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Deaconess Community.
She was a member of several community boards, including Lighthouse Ministries of Ligonier, Common Grace, and The Apple Tree Center of Kendallville.
Elsie loved to travel and her ministries took her all over the world.
Surviving are two sons, Jack Fregeau of Rosemont, Illinois, and Michael (Sue) Fregeau of Lake in the Hills, Illinois; two daughters, Lynette (Kenneth) Streich of Montello, Wisconsin, and Suzette (David) White of Kendallville; five grandchildren, Steven Fregeau of Canton, Ohio, Christopher Fregeau of Honolulu, Hawaii, Nicholas White of Kendallville, Katie White of Kendallville, and Emma White of Kendallville; nieces and nephews, Daryl (Kathy) DeMuyt of Rome City, Dara (Stan) Childers of Kendallville, Denise DeMuyt of Kendallville, Dawn (Patrick) DeMuyt of Racine, Wisconsin, Deonne (Marshall) Dymond of Indianapolis, Dean (Linda) DeMuyt of Winchester, Michell Kondrat of Illinois, and Mark Kondrat of Illinois; her dog, Panda; and her cat, Yellow Ears.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Clifford Fregeau.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, 2520 N 600 E, Kendallville with Rev. Phyllis Smoot officiating.
Calling is Tuesday, October 24, 2017, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
Preferred memorials are to The Apple Tree Center in care of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church.
