Obituary

Elmer B. Lowder, 74, of Kendallville died Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at 11:48 p.m. in his residence.

He had lived in this area since the 1950's, coming from Kentucky.

He honorably served in the National Guard.

Mr. Lowder retired after 30 years with Navistar in Fort Wayne and Springfield, Ohio.

He was a member of the Kendallville Eagles Lodge, Kendallville Elks Lodge, and Rome City American Legion Post 381.

Elmer enjoyed sports cars, especially Corvettes, college basketball, the Cincinnati Reds baseball, and the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball. He loved mowing the lawn and being with his friends.

He was born October 18, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Harry B. and Radia M. (Bailey) Lowder.

Surviving are his wife, Valerie K. (Chaffee) Lowder; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David Wolf of Kendallville; daughter and fiancé, Sherri Lowder and Jeff Hockemeyer of Columbia City; a grandson, Trent Lowder of Columbia City; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Rita Lowder of Fort Wayne; and a sister-in-law, Sue Lowder of Kendallville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Marvin Lowder and Thurman Lowder.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Rome City American Legion Post 381.

Calling will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Preferred memorials are to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
