ELMER J. HUTH, SR., 89, of Kendallville died unexpectedly at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2008, in his residence.
Mr. Huth retired from Magnavox in Fort Wayne after 44 years of service. He had served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post #240 in Avilla. He enjoyed playing the mandolin, banjo, and guitar.
He was born October 13, 1918, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Leonard D. and Irene (Wagerman) Huth. On October 17, 1942 in Rudyard, Michigan, he married Alice (Vigneaux) Huth. She preceded him in death on May 29, 2004.
Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Phillip Desormeaux of Avilla, Rose and Clifford Lindblom of Ossian, Jackie and Steve Dodge of Holly, Michigan, and Jill and Harold Wallen of Kendallville; six sons and four daughters-in-law, Al L. and Barb Huth of Kendallville, Elmer J. "Joe" Huth, Jr. and Erma Huth of Springfield, Ohio, Michael F. and Nancy Huth of Garrett, Patrick A. Huth of Kendallville, Jerry A. Huth of Garrett, and Thomas D. and Lynette Huth of Pendleton; three sisters, Dorothy Newman of Garrett, Mary Ann Fogle of Georgia, and Phyllis Swank of Fort Wayne; 22 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Avilla. Casketbearers will be his sons. Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post #240.
Calling is Tuesday, October 7, 2008, from 2 - 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to the donor's choice.
