Eleanor Mae Countryman, 94, of Kendallville died Friday, April 7, 2023, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.
She was born December 11, 1928, in Gloversville, New York, the third of nine children born to to Edward C. and Mildred (Rowback) Gordon.
Eleanor married Chester Countryman on January 9, 1947, in Greensboro, North Carolina. They relocated to Kendallville in 1964, and shared almost 59 years of marriage before his death on January 1, 2006.
Eleanor had worked at Carbaugh Jewelers in Auburn for many years.
She enjoyed gardening and doing puzzles, but her greatest enjoyment was her family. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are a son, Allen Countryman of Kendallville; a daughter, Nancy (Steve) Reith of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Stacey Reith of Fishers, Brian (Kellie) Reith of Bradenton, Florida, Rev, Troy (Andrea) Countryman of Melbourne, Florida, and Sarah (Steve) Bellino of Parker, Colorado; eight great-grandchildren, Piper, Oliver, and Drew Countryman, Dixon, Kinsie, and Mallie Reith, and Alyssa and Makenna Bellino; a brother, Harold Gordon of Gloversville, New York; three sisters, Audrey (John) Godes of Orange, California, Janice Vandewalker of Johnstown, New York, and Gloria Pazzaglia of Johnstown, New York; a half-sister, Terry VanDyke; and James Countryman of Parker, Colorado.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Gordon and Robert Gordon; and two sisters, Beatrice Melucci and Joyce Mulhall.
Private graveside services will be held at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville for the loving care given to Eleanor.
Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer's Association, Noble County Humane Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
