Edward H. Swink, 83, of Rome City died Thursday, June 14, 2012, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
He moved to Anderson at the age of 16, coming from Kentucky. In 1996, he moved to Rome City. He wintered in Lake Okeechobee, Florida, for 21 years.
Mr. Swink served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Rome City American Legion Post 381.
He retired as a maintenance electrician from PQ Corporation in Anderson where he was President of the AFL-CIO Local 357 for 18 years. He was also a farmer in Frankton for 50 years.
He was born July 18, 1928, in Union Star, Kentucky, to June and Victoria Belle (Masterson) Swink. On June 20, 1953, in Anderson he married Wavie Ann Deweese. She survives in Rome City.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Lee and Judy Swink of Frankton and Kim Bradley and Deborah Swink of Anderson; a daughter and son-in-law, Trena and Bob Georgel of Rome City; four grandchildren, Butch Swink of Anderson, Elizabeth and Terry Bilbrey of Dunnellon, FL, Christina Swink of Anderson, and Jessica Georgel of Rome City; seven step grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.
Honor guard services will be provided by Rome City American Legion Post 381 and Kendallville VFW Post 2749.
Calling is Monday, June 18, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
