Funeral services will be Thursday, February 12, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel.
Calling is Wednesday, February 11, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Thursday. ****************************************************************************************** Doyne C. Strater, 67, of Wawaka died Sunday, February 8, 2015, in his residence.
He was born and raised in this area and had lived in Springfield, Ohio, for 20 years. He returned to this area four years ago.
Doyne graduated from Kendallville High School in 1965.
He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving in Korea and Okinawa, Japan, where he was a military police officer.
Mr. Strater retired after 40 years with International Harvester in Fort Wayne and Springfield, Ohio.
He was a member of the Churubusco American Legion Post 157 and Kendallville VFW Post 2749.
Doyne enjoyed playing cards, riding his Harley Davidson, and was an I.U. basketball fan. He was a gun enthusiast and loved to hunt and fish.
He was born October 12, 1947, in Kendallville to Cedric W. and Helen M. (Schoup) Strater. His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Kristi (Dave) Stroder of Churubusco; two sons, Eric Strater of Albion and Kevin (Tracy) Strater of Albion; five grandchildren, Dylan Stroder, Lauren Stroder, Aiden Stroder, Kaleb Strater, and Samuel Strater; a sister, Joan (Jack) Hosford of Wawaka; three nephews, Jim (Nancy) Hosford of Wawaka, Joel (Anita) Hosford of Albion, and Jason (Susan) Hosford of Albion; and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 12, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville at a later date.
Honor guard services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville American Legion Post 381, Churubusco American Legion Post 157, and active duty members of the U.S. military.
Calling is Wednesday, February 11, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to the American Legion Post or VFW Post of the donor's choice.
