Douglas B. "Doug" Emrick, 68, of Avilla died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in his residence.
Mr. Emrick was a lifetime area resident. He graduated from Salem Center High School in 1961. He was a machinist at Morr Pattern and Tool in Kendallville and retired form Pease Windamatic in Huntertown.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville.
He was born January 16, 1943, in Kendallville to Toellner and Thelma (Ewell) Emrick. On December 21, 1963, at Zion Lutheran Church in DeKalb County he married Sandra D. Smith.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra D. "Sandie" Emrick of Avilla; two daughters, Monica Duehmig of Kendallville and Michelle (Ed) Keil of Huntertown; five grandchildren, Justin Liedel, Hillary (Jason) Kline, Kyle Duehmig, Kelsie Duehmig, and Drew Keil; a great grandson, William Kline; two sisters, Marilyn Kreig of Fort Wayne and Judy Cooley of Ligonier; and a brother, David (Anna) Emrick of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 13, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Rev. Dr. Robert Shriner and Rev. Paul B. Griebel of St. John Lutheran Church, Kendallville, officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandson. Active pallbearers will be Delbert Smith, John Baker, Johnathan Smith, Brandon Hicks, Eric Rupley, and Rex Snyder.
Calling is Thursday, May 12, 2011, from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Friday in the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Parkview Noble Home Health Care and Hospice, or Make-A-Wish Foundation.
