IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna M.
Lucas
September 27, 1942 – January 24, 2013
Service: Monday, January 28, 2013 - 6 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel
Calling: Monday, January 28, 2013 - 1-6 p.m. in the funeral home ************************************************** Donna M. Lucas, 70, of Kendallville passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013, at home after a seven month struggle with cancer.
She had been employed as a nurse's aide, a professional seamstress, in a garment factory in Tennessee, and a variety of other jobs in her earlier years to support her family. In the last 25 years, she was a homemaker and provided alteration services for many people who she befriended and remained her friends.
Donna was the owner of "Donna's Delights", a fabric, notion, craft, and sewing machine store in Kendallville during the late 1980's. Through her store, she made many friends and thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and helping them with sewing projects and sharing her extensive knowledge of sewing techniques.
While operating the store, her interest in quilting was stimulated. She soon became an accomplished quilter and was a member of numerous quilting guilds and groups. Most recently, she was a leading member of Threads of Friendship for 12 years. She was quick to share her knowledge as well as always searching for new quilting techniques.
She was extremely talented at painting, knitting, crocheting, tending her flower garden, and cooking.
She was an inspiration to her family and friends with her positive outlook on life, even through her cancer treatments, and as she continually tried to learn new things during her life.
Donna touched many people during her life, and will be sadly missed.
She was born September 27, 1942, in Terre Haute to Clifford and Elizabeth (Grey) Wagle. On September 29, 1985, in Cordova, Alaska, she married Neil E. Lucas. He survives in Kendallville.
Also surviving are her children, Daniel Scott, Jr., Wade Walton, Lisa Lucas all of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Adel Davenport and her significant other, Scott Carwile of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Alexandria Miller stationed with the US Navy in San Diego, California, Grace Walton of Jackson, Michigan, Sarah Davenport, Jeffery Davenport, II, Christopher and Kayla Davenport, and Matthew Davenport all of Winchester, Tennessee; a great grandson, Christopher Jayden Davenport of Winchester, Tennessee; a brother, James Wagle of Beloit, Wisconsin; and a sister, Carol Roeder of Fenton, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clifford Wagle; and a sister, Betty J. Blackburn.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 28, 2013, at 6 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Dan Carlson of the Wolf Lake Baptist Church officiating. Interment of her cremains at South Milford Cemetery will be at a later date.
Calling is Monday, January 28, 2013, from 1 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
