Donna Jean Collins, 88, of Avilla and formerly of Stroh died Thursday, August 2, 2017, in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.
She was born January 14, 1929, in Pleasant Lake to Gerald and Violet (Wilcox) Brand. Her parents preceded her in death.
Jean was a homemaker for most of her life. She also worked at Day's Inn (now Best Western) in Kendallville for over ten years. She worked there until she was in her seventies. She moved to assisted living at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla several years ago where she was well loved by residents and staff.
Her hobbies included jig-saw puzzles, latch hook rugs, word searches and Sudoku. Jean loved family gatherings and being with her grandchildren. And, she was an avid I.U. basketball fan.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Robert Bartley of Stroh; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Linda Collins of Rockport, Texas; a sister, Rose Marie (Duane Lee) Grate of Garrett; two grandsons, Mike (Tonya) Bartley of Angola and David Collins; two granddaughters, Laura (Darren) Strong of Kendallville and Shawn Reiser of Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary Collins, Zain Reiser, Seirra McRoberts, Zachary Bartley, Makayla Bartley, Trinity Bartley, Anna Strong, and Kara Strong; and three great-great-grandchildren, Joseph, Sidney, and Shannon McRoberts.
She was preceded in death by her husband DuVern "Whitie" Collins in 1985; two sisters, Geraldine Becker and Margaret Dailey; and two brothers-in-law, Floyd Becker and Howard Dailey.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Hudson-Ashley Chapel, (formerly Johnson Funeral Home), 612 North Main Street, Hudson with Pastor Brian Walter of the South Milford Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Calling is Monday, August 7, 2017, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to LaVerna Terrace in Avilla.
