Obituary

Dick E. Young, 90 of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at 10:40 p.m. at Sarasota Memorial Rehab & Nursing, Sarasota, Florida.

He was born on June 22, 1928, the son of Arlow and Ethyle (Gale) Young in Noble County, Indiana, at home. On January 15, 1950, he married Norma Jean Johnson.

Mr. Young graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1946 and Fort Wayne Technology College in 1964. He worked for his dad at the Burr Oak General Store, later becoming part owner of Young & Glass in Albion, Indiana, repairing Maytag appliances. He worked at GE, Bloomington, Illinois, and Borg Warner, Dixon, Illinois, as an electrical engineer. Later, he started a Glass Specialty Company in North Carolina and ended his career working as an AAA representative in Atlanta, GA for 16 years before retiring to Florida.

He was a member of Grace Church, Sarasota, Florida, and the Society of the Mayflower Decendants. He was also a special representative for Radio Station HCJB that is located in Quito, Ecuador. And, he served as a Trustee and President of the Board of Directors' of Venetian Park Estates, a retirement park.

Dick loved his church where, for over the last 20 years, he helped with a display of over one million lights at Christmas. He loved basketball and enjoyed following college games and, in later years, added professional teams. For over 10 years, he and Norma traveled across the county in their motor home working with SOWER (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready). During his retirement, he enjoyed his lovely hot Florida weather walking and the last few months riding a three-wheeler through his retirement park.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to many. He would most want to be remembered for his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Norma Jean Young of Sarasota, Florida; one daughter, Beverly (Dennis) Schumacher of Sarasota, Florida; two sons, Paul (Becky) Young of Evensville, Tennessee, and Anthony (Dale) Young of Easton, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jamie) Doyle of Lafayette, Indiana, Matthew (Kandi) Schumacher of Dixon, Illinois, Rachel Schumacher of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Elizabeth (Ben) Carden of Hixon, Tennessee, Anne (Danny) King of Cologne, Germany, Sara (Jamie) Kirkland of Maryville, Tennessee, George "Zachary" (Jeanette) Young of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Aaron Young of New Jersey, Lisa (Joe) Moscatell of Belvidere, New Jersey, and Bryan Young of New Brunswick, New Jersey; and 16 great-grandchildren.
