Obituary

Devon J. "Deacon" Ihrie, 90, of Kendallville died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, in his residence.

He was a lifetime area resident.

Mr. Ihrie served in the United States Army during World War II.

He retired in 1988 from Kraft Foods in Kendallville.

Devon was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Kendallville, a life member of Kendallville VFW Post 2749, a life member of Kendallville American Legion Post 86, a life member of Kendallville Elks Lodge 1194, and a member of the former Kendallville Moose Lodge 1301. He was also a member of VFW Post 2749 Honor Guard for many years.

He was born April 9, 1925, in Kendallville to Orrie Lee and Mary Margaret (Lash) Ihrie.

He was married to Joyce Marie Lafever, and she preceded him in death on September 12, 1984.

Surviving are four sons, Danny Lee (Corene) Ihrie of Indianapolis, Michael Allen (Shirley) Ihrie of Kendallville, Steven Devon (Sue) Ihrie of Fort Wayne, and Thomas Wayne Ihrie of Phenix City, Alabama; a daughter, RoseMarie (Weldon) Cline of Kendallville; nine grandchildren, Allison Ihrie, Tyler Ihrie, Chad Ihrie, Troy Ihrie, Marcus Ihrie, Joel Ihrie, Josh Ihrie, Jacob Ihrie, and Tiffany Cline; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Theresia Aumsbaugh of Fort Wayne; numerous nieces and nephews; his long-time companion, Florence J. Glick of Kendallville; and her family, Gary (Brigitta) Glick of San Antonio, Texas, Randy Glick of Auburn, Brian (Patty) Glick of Angola, Tim Glick of Three Rivers, Michigan, Deanne (Jeff) Davis of Fremont, 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Don Ihrie; and three sisters, Eileen Krull, Paquita "Pat" Kurtz, and Amy Gongwer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 301 East Diamond Street, Kendallville with Father James Stoyle officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Honorary pallbearers will be Allison Ihrie, Tiffany Cline, Samantha Ihrie, and Felicia Davis. Active pallbearers will be Chad Ihrie, Troy Ihirie, Tyler Ihrie, Marcus Ihrie, Nicholas Ihrie, and Jeffery Sparkman.

Honor guard services will be conducted by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, Rome City American Legion Post 381, and active duty members of the U.S. Army.

Calling is Friday, March 11, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville where there will be an Elks service at 7:45 p.m. There will also be calling one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Preferred memorials are to Kendallville VFW Post 2749 Honor Guard, Parkview Noble Hospice, or Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana.
