Debra Elaine Schermerhorn, 69, of Wawaka, Indiana, died Monday, February 19, 2024, at her residence.
She was born November 1, 1954, in Kendallville, Indiana, to Charles W. and Inez M. (Cook) Mynhier. Her father preceded her in death on November 24, 2022.
Debra was a 1973 graduate of East Noble High School.
On March 3, 1978, in Brimfield she married Steven E. Schermerhorn.
She had worked at Tokheim, was a teacher's aide at the Rome City School, and was a teller at Farmers State Bank and Lake City Bank. But, she most enjoyed being at home caring for her family and being a farm wife.
She was a member of Calvary Chapel North Lakes at Stroh.
Debra enjoyed basket weaving, sewing, quilting, and canning. She also liked to go for walks and take a ride on her electric bike. But, most of all, she dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Steve Schermerhorn of Wawaka; two sons, Joe (Terri) Schermerhorn of Cincinnati and Josh (Sarah) Schermerhorn of Zionsville; five grandchildren, Katie, Matt, Emily, Claire, and Jackson Schermerhorn; her mother, Inez Mynhier of Wawaka; and a brother, Dale (Kelly) Mynhier of Wawaka.
Vistiation will be Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville and Monday, February 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Debra's funeral service will be Monday, February 26, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Frank Gonzalez officiating.
Burial will follow at Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Pallbearers are Steve McCreery, Jim Carr, Mickey Schulze, Dick Frischkorn, Carl Brown, and Travis Quick.
Memorials may be directed to Calvary Chapel North Lakes or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana
Debra's funeral service will live stream on the Young Family Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday for those unable to attend in person..
