Davis Abner, 70, of Ligonier died Friday, October 25, 2019, at his residence. He had been in failing health since 2007.
He was born July 8, 1949, in Hazard, Kentucky, to Mason and Bertha (Morris) Abner.
He moved to this area in 2012 from Scottsburg.
Mr. Abner was truck driver. He attended Salem United Baptist Church.
Davis enjoyed fishing and shooting guns. He loved to watch football and was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan. But, his pride and joy was his dog, Little Bit.
Surviving are two daughters, Michele (David) Sowards of Milford and Tracy Morris of Ligonier; two sons, Greg (Heather Archer) Abner of Cromwell and Marty (Pauline) Abner of Churubusco; six grandchildren, Brandie Abner, Kayla Farmwald, Dustin Shepherd, Kendra Ostrander, Dylan Ostrander, and Keisha Sowards; three great-grandchildren, Ben Annis, Alan Annis, and McKinnley Farmwald; a sister, Maggie (Joe) Green of Englewood, Florida; a brother, Ronald Abner of Springfield, Kentucky; Jill Martino of Kendallville, who was like a daughter; and his best friend, Betty Abner of Ligonier.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son-in-law, Phil Morris.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Salem United Baptist Church, 8227 N SR 9, Kendallville with Pastor Billy Tuttle and Pastor Scotty Ritchie officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.
Calling is Tuesday, October 29, 2019, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the church where there will be an evening service at 6 p.m.
Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville is assisting the family with arrangements.
