David Charles Nissen, 64, of Wolcottville, Indiana died unexpectedly Sunday, March 22, 2026, at his residence.
He was born September 14, 1961, to Charles S. and Patricia (Cassidy) Nissen on the Army base at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
He married Alda Owens in 1986, at their home on Adams Lake in Wolcottville.
He was a member of the of the Rome City American Legion SAL.
He retired as a welder from Quick Tanks in Kendallville after 41 years. He was proud of his current job as the manager for the Adams Lake Regional Sewer District.
Dave was an outdoorsman through and through, he enjoyed having a fishing pole in his hand or being out in the woods at daybreak, taking in the quiet that most people never slow down long enough to notice. He loved the thrill of NASCAR, the sound of engines roaring, and the simple joy of settling in to watch a good race.
But the place where his heart lived most fully was with his grandchildren. They were his world. He lit up when they walked into the room, and he never missed a chance to make them feel special. Whether he was teasing them, teaching them something new, or just listening to their stories, he poured his whole heart into being their grandpa. It wasn’t a role he took lightly—it was one he cherished, one that brought out the very best in him.
Surviving are his wife, Alda Nissen of Wolcottville; a son, David C. (Amanda) Nissen, II of Kendallville; two grandchildren, Ava Nissen and Connor Nissen; two sisters, Tammy (Don) Mead of Wawaka and Polly Nissen of Wolcottville; and his mother-in-law, Reva Owens of Kendallville.
He was preceded by his parents; his father-in-law, Alden Owens; a brother-in-law, Rodney Owens; a niece, Sara Kurts; and a nephew, Tyler A. Owens.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 27, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
