David L. "Dark Horse" Neeley, 56, of Chillicothe, Ohio, died Monday, July 5, 2010, at 9:10 p.m. in the Chillicothe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Neeley was a Native American Indian of the Cherokee Tribe. He was a Medicine Man, Paint Clan Chief, and Village Drum.
He was formerly a resident of LaGrange County, moving to Chillicothe in 1977.
He was born September 17, 1953, in Kendallville to L. B. and Dana (Shepherd) Neeley. On August 2, 1977, in Chillicothe, Ohio, he married Luanie "Running Water" Fields. She is also a Native American Indian.
Surviving are his wife, Luanie "Running Water" Neeley of Chillicothe; a son and his fiance, Charles D. Neeley and Micah Rucker of Chillicothe; two stepsons, William and Rebecca Eblin of Columbus, Ohio, and Robert Eblin of McArthur, Ohio; and a stepdaughter, Tammy Eblin of Tennessee; numerous grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Judy Messer-Sexton and J.R. Sexton of Kendallville and Wilma Sutton of Helmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jonathon Neeley.
Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, LaGrange.
Arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
