David C. Myers, 76, of Rome City, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008, in his residence. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on September 11, 1932, the son of Ferris C. "Chief" and Evangeline "Bing" (O'Conner) Myers. He was educated in Dayton and Hamilton schools, and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1951. Dave attended Indiana University, and was a 1955 graduate of Miami University. He was an active member of Sigma Chi fraternity, as were his father, brother and two sons. While on the Hamilton High football team, Dave was proud of the fact that in his junior and senior years he played all 60 minutes of every game. He also was active in gymnastics, swimming and boxing.
Following college graduation, he married Patricia Eby on September 17, 1955, in Dayton. He spent four years in the military as a Marine jet pilot. Most of Dave's business career was spent in Industrial Sales in Orange, California, and Chicago, Illinois. He and his family returned to Sylvan Lake, Rome City, Indiana, to a family home where he had spent all of his summers. Dave was involved in many Rome City activities and the Rome City Lions Club. Boating, swimming, and fishing were his favorite past times on Sylvan Lake. A reliable friend with a strong sense of humor and many interests. He was an authority on Sylvan Lake and its past history. David has served forty years as a board member of the Sylvan Lake Improvement Association.
He was a member of St. Gaspar Catholic Church in Rome City and the Rome City Lions Club.
In June, 1996, Dave was married to Susan (Cummins) Vaaler in Hamilton, Ohio, and they divided their time between Hamilton and Rome City.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Myers; two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher C. & Jeannie Myers of Auburn and Daniel P. and Paula Myers of San Jose, California; three daughters and two sons-in-law, KevinAnne Kitchen of Glen Rock, New Jersey, Jennifer G. and Frode Larsen of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, and Dina A. and Dr. David L. Holliday of Rome City; three stepchildren and their spouses, Scott and Stephanie Vaaler of Glendale, Ohio, Eric and Suzanne Vaaler of Arnold, Maryland, and Anne and Craig Mills of Hamilton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, David Carson Myers, II, Mary Rose Myers, Brittany Rose Kitchen, Carson Taylor Michaeli Myers, Reese McAllister Corbington Myers, Michael Patrick Larsen, Daniel Andreas Larsen, Lucas Michael Holliday, and Logan James Holliday; seven stepgrandchildren; and a sister Patricia Weber of Walloon Lake, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Col. Joseph Myers and Michael Myers.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gaspar Catholic Church with Fr. Bernard Ramenaden officiating. Burial will be in St. Gaspar Catholic Cemetery. Honorary casketbearers will be Frode Larsen and Dr. David Holliday. Active casketbears will be Christopher Myers, Daniel Myers, David C. Myers, II, Lucas Holliday, Logan Holliday, and Michael Larsen.
Calling will be Friday from 3-8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the Sylvan Lake Improvement Association.
