David S. Haskins, 55, of Great Falls, Virginia, and formerly of Kendallville died Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at 1:18 p.m. in his residence following a four year illness.
He was a 1975 graduate of East Noble High School and a 1981 graduate of Indiana University, majoring in finance and communications.
David had lived in Great Falls since 1981.
He operated his own business in website development. He was a soccer and baseball coach and served as the favorite neighborhood chef.
He was a former member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville.
David was born October 28, 1956, in Kendallville to Fred J. and Nancy (Baughman) Haskins. On December 14, 1985, he married Deidre Gillham. She survives in Great Falls, Virginia.
Also surviving are his twin children, a daughter, Shannon Haskins, a student at Virgina Tech; a son, Morgan Haskins, a student at James Madison University; his mother and stepfather, Nancy and Tom Miller of Kendallville; a grandmother, Florede Baughman of Kendallville; a stepsister, Mindy and Mick Kees of Gilbert, Arizona; and a stepbrother, Jon Miller of Gilbert, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred J. Haskins; his grandparents, Fred and Cora Haskins; his grandfather, Merle Baughman; and a sister, Heather Haskins.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 20, 2012, at 2 p.m. in Trinity Church United Methodist, Kendallville with Rev. Scott Pattison officiating.
Calling is one hour prior to services at the church.
A private burial was held at Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Preferred memorials are to the Capital Caring or Melanoma Research Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
