David C. Harvey, 77, of Rome City died Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in his residence surrounded by his family.
He graduated from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis in 1957. David honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960.
Mr. Harvey worked for William H. Block Company in Indianapolis before moving to Sylvan Lake in 1975. He was a member of Rome City United Methodist Church.
David loved all sports and racing, especially NASCAR. He was an avid fan of Indiana University Basketball and Indianapolis Colts Football.
Family was very important to him as well as his yellow lab, Abby, whom he dearly loved.
He was born January 24, 1939, in Indianapolis to Harold W. and Helen (Miller) Harvey.
On June 18, 1983 in Indianapolis he married Sondra Mae VanWinkle. She survives in Rome City.
Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Terri D. Perkins of Rome City; a stepson, Randall K. Hawkins of Neenah, WI; six step grandchildren, Brian Hawkins of Church Hill, TN, Amber (Perkins) Phiodeng of Holland, MI, Brandon Perkins of Fort Wayne, Stephanie Grigsby of Rome City, Dakota Hawkins of Indianapolis, and Morgan Thompson-Hawkins of Seymour; six step great-grandchildren, Ciera, Madison, and Serenity Hawkins of Church Hill, TN, Aiden Hawkins of Indianapolis, Jocelyn Phiodeng of Holland, MI, and Gabriella Williams of Rome City; and a brother and two sisters-in-law, H. Wayne (Marijane) Harvey of Indianapolis and Sharon Harvey of Estero, FL; five nieces, Karen Brown of Indianapolis, Beth Harvey-Fulop of Downer's Grove, IL, Kathy (Mark) Graden, Naperville, IL, Pamela (David) Hogue, Kennesaw, GA, Laura (Dan) Flynn of West End, NC, one nephew, Keith (Donna) Harvey of Macon, GA; eight great-nieces and nephews and a brother-in-law, Harold E. "Rip" VanWinkle of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Douglas M. Hawkins on December 22, 2015; and a brother, William E. Harvey.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 20, 2016, at 2 p.m. in Rome City United Methodist Church with Pastor Christopher White and Pastor Jim Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.
Calling is Saturday, August 20, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church.
Preferred memorials are to the Rome City United Methodist Church.
