Obituary

David Paul Gemmer, 79, of Corunna, died Monday, February 22, 2010, in his rural home.

He began his teaching career in 1952, in a one room school at Zion Lutheran Corunna, was a Principal and teacher at St. John's Flatrock, Monroeville, and retired after teaching 26 years at Concordia Lutheran High School, Fort Wayne.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville and was a Stephen Ministry leader and teacher.

He was born June 2, 1930, in Huntington to the late Paul and Edith (Ellerman) Gemmer.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maryellyn (Smith) Gemmer of Corunna; a son and daughter-in-law, David & Lisa Gemmer of Avon; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sarah Clark of Corunna, Rachel & Dean Dwyer of Corunna, and Hannah & Andy Alatza of Westfield; and six grandsons, Jeremiah Sheets, Isaiah Clark, Paul and Mark Gemmer, and Nicholas and Noah Alatza.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 1 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 301 South Oak Street, Kendallville, with Rev. Paul B. Griebel and Rev. Robert Shriner officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church and School, Kendallville or Parkview Noble Hospice.
