David L. Christner, 89, of Wolcottville transferred to Heaven Wednesday, November 10, 2010, from his home on Messick Lake.
He was born March 28, 1921, in Topeka to Levi D. and Goldie O'Neil (Eash) Christner. On March 19, 1946, in Old Fort, Ohio, he married Lois Heilman.
He had lived in the Wolcottville area for the past 52 years. He retired from Duo-Therm in LaGrange where he did general repair and maintenance.
He was a member of the Shipshewana Church of the Nazarene. He was named LaGrange County Citizen of the Year in 1997 for conducting worship services for 25 years at Miller's Merry Manor in LaGrange.
He was a member of the Gideon's, and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
David is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois; two sons, Michael E. Christner, Kalamazoo, Michigan, and D. John Christner and wife, Trudy of Noblesville; five grandchildren, Candy, Mindy, Michelle, Chad, and Jaime; nine great grandchildren; brother, Sam Christner; and sister, Sue Christner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Betty Lee Christner; sisters, Lizzie Miller, Mary Fereva, Edith Lyon, Emma Hostetler; and brothers, Menno Christner, Christian Christner, Amos Christner, Levi Christner, Arthur Christner, and John Christner.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 13, 2010, at 10 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Pastor Andy Dayton of the Shipshewana Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.
Calling is Friday, November 12, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to the Shipshewana Church of the Nazarene.
