Service: Tuesday, April 9, 2013 - 11 a.m. in Salem United Baptist Church, Kendallville

Calling: Monday, April 8, 2013 - 2-8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday ******************************************************************* Corbet Slone, 91, of Kendallville died Friday, April 5, 2013, in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville with his family at his side.

He moved to Stroh in 1952, coming from Vest, Kentucky. He has resided in Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville since September, 2011.

Mr. Slone began his career working in a sawmill. He then drove truck, worked on the railroad, and retired from All Metal in Ligonier.

He was a member of the Salem United Baptist Church where he was a very active and faithful servant. He served as deacon, trustee, and clerk of the church.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Corbet loved to glorify the Lord through song and in message. He enjoyed mowing grass, gardening, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He was known for telling jokes and giving away candy.

He was born June 2, 1921, in Raven, Kentucky, to Amos and Dallie Slone. On July 20, 1942, in Vest, Kentucky, he married Sophie Gibson. She preceded him in death on May 22, 2003.

Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, LaDonna McConahay of Big Turkey Lake, Betty and Billy Tuttle of Hudson, and Joeann and Ronald Spade of Angola; 11 grandchildren, Chad and Robin Tuttle of Howe, Shawn Tuttle of Hudson, Clarissa and Gene Fugate of Garrett, Arletta and Jerry Smith of Angola, Tim and Kim McConahay of Hudson, Sherry and Kirk Noll of LaGrange, Steven and Regina Mynhier of Pueblo, Colorado, Debbie and Mike Uhl of Kendallville, Karen Guise of Fremont, Tara and Russell Ratliff of Angola, and Allison Slone of Angola; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren due in May and October; a sister and brother-in-law, Daisy and Al Amburgey of LaGrange; and a brother and sister-in-law, Austin and Elmetta Slone of Wolcottville.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Don Slone; a son-in-law, Larry McConahay; a grandson, Christopher Ray Mynhier; three sisters, Brookie Click, Beulah Grigsby, and Geneva Lawson; and two brothers, Cullen Slone and L.D. Slone.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Salem United Baptist Church, Kendallville with Pastor Billy Ray Tuttle and Rev. Elmer Slone officiating. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery at Kimmel.

Pallbearers will be Steven Mynhier, Timothy McConahay, Chad Tuttle, Shawn Tuttle, Kirk Noll, Mike Uhl, Jerry Smith, and Gene Fugate.

Calling is Monday, April 8, 2013, from 2 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Preferred memorials are to Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.
