Cora Barker, 75, of South Milford, died Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 1:13 p.m. in the home of her daughter, Trina Caudill in Waterloo following a six-month illness. She moved to this area in 1956, coming from West Virginia. She retired from JCIM in Kendallville. Mrs. Barker was a member of the South Milford Independent Baptist Church. Cora enjoyed talking on the phone to her family and friends. Those calls will be dearly missed. She was born August 28, 1941, in Corydon to Joseph and Alonzo (Bolyn) Bolen. On March 15, 1974, in Auburn she married Vencil Ray Barker. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2011. Surviving are three daughters, Trina (Josh) Caudill of Waterloo, Lois (Edward) Huff of Kendallville, and Sandy (Louis Hyde) Taulbee of Kendallville; a son, Howard (Linda) Charles of Cree Lake; four stepdaughters, Nicole (Randy) Harness of Pleasant Lake, Eugenia (Rick) Jacques of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lisa (Harold) Harris of Smyrna, Georgia, and Phyllis (George) Forbes of Virginia; two stepsons, Dwayne (Pam) Barker of Rockford, Illinois and Danny (Lionor) Barker of Tucson, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Tiffanie Hicks, Tara Rowe, Jarrod Charles, Jesse Charles, Edward Huff, Jr., Amy Bruce, Brooke Hyde, Lucas Caudill, and Tyler Caudill; 25 step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie (Paul) Johnson of Maquon, Illinois; and a brother, Jimmy (Carolyn) Bowton of Geneseo, Illinois. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Marie Barker; two grandchildren, Jeremy Taulbee and Tammy Huff; and eight brothers and sisters, Milford Handshoe, Milton Handshoe, Marie VanBlacaracom, Garland Gibson, Monroe Gibson, Shelton Bolen, Joseph Bolen, Jr., and Bernice Bolen. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Harbor of Love Baptist Church, 2353 South Lima Road, Kendallville with Pastor Earl Bolen and Pastor David Bolen officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville. Casketbearers are Lucas Caudill, Tyler Caudill, Jarrod Charles, Jesse Charles, Ed Huff, Jr., and Jeremiah Taulbee. Calling is Tuesday, January 17, 2017, from 2 to 8 p.m. in the church where there will be an evening service at 7 p.m. Preferred memorials are to the South Milford Independent Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
