Obituary

Cleo A. McKean, 99, of Kendallville died Sunday, January 27, 2008, at 1:36 am in Shepherd of the Hill Nursing Home. She had resided there for four years.

Mrs. McKean was a homemaker her entire life. She was an active member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville since 1922 and a member of the Lydia Circle. She was also active with the McCray Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She was born March 18, 1908, in Kendallville to Orvil and Corrine (Thomas) Rothermel. She married Alfred McKean in Kendallville on December 23, 1928. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1983.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Kenneth Freiburger of Kendallville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert and Marilyn McKean of Anderson; three granddaughters, Monique Zawadzke of Kendallville, Dawn and Pat Butler of Anderson, and Sheila and Bret Laudig of Pendleton; two grandsons, Jeffrey McKean of Richardson, Texas and Bradley and Lilia McKean of Carl Junction, Missouri; four great granddaughters, Madeline Laudig, Adrianne Laudig, Rachel Butler, and Michelle McKean; four great grandsons, Patrick McKean, Jacob Butler, Joel Butler, and Aaron Butler; and two sisters, Katherine Munk and Jean Fox both of Kendallville.

Preceding her in death were a son, Neil McKean; a granddaughter, Valerie McKean; a brother, Warren Schmuck; and six sisters, Irene Cain, Thelma Grossman, Beulah Lash, Marjorie Springer, Alberta Jackson, and Margaret Shippy.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at 1 pm at the Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. G. Scott Pattison of Trinity Church United Methodist officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 30, 2008, from 11 am to 1 pm at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Shepherd of the Hill, Trinity Church United Methodist, or Common Grace.
