Clayton H. Slone, Sr., 76, of Wolcottville died Monday, March 9, 2009, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Slone retired after working at the Lane Foundry and Newnam (now Dalton) Foundry in Kendallville for a total of 34 years. He had also worked 8 years at Walkers in Ligonier. He was a member of the Salem United Baptist Church.

He was born January 15, 1933, in Hollybush, Kentucky, to Leonard and Parthena (Owens) Slone.

On July 20, 1968, in Clintwood, Virginia, he married Geraldine A. Brewster. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2001.

Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Phillip Lucas of Rome City, Regina and Donnie Joe Woody of Taylorsville, North Carolina, Brenda and Ray Ritchie of Rome City, and Janice and David Baker of Kendallville; two sons, Clayton Slone, Jr. of Wolcottville and Michael Slone of Rome City; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; four sisters, Lila B. Gibson of Hindman, Kentucky, Florida Slone of Pippa Passes, Kentucky, Delia Thornsberry of St. Mary's, Ohio, and Georgia Smith of Camas, Washington; and a special friend, Leah Hagerman of Ligonier.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Slone; two sisters, Myrtle Slone and Zalie Slone; and five brothers, Shelby Hall, Arnold Hall, Manifee Hall, Millard Slone, and Orville Slone.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 13, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in the Salem United Baptist Church, State Road 9 North, Kendallville, with Pastor Billy Ray Tuttle and Elmer Slone officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery near Rome City.

Calling will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, and all day Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the church. Evening services will be held at 6:00 p.m. both nights.

Arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.
