Obituary

Clarice J. Rogers, 84, of Greenbank, Washington, and formerly of Kendallville died Thursday, November 12, 2015, in Washington.

Mrs. Rogers will be remembered as a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.

She graduated from Ashley High School and received her bachelor's degree from Butler University in 1955 where she became a life member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She later received her master's degree from the University of Saint Francis. She taught second grade at Kendallville Central Elementary School for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1995.

Mrs. Rogers belonged to several educational organizations and was a past member of the Beta Chapter of Tri Kappa in Kendallville.

She was born October 7, 1931 on the family farm in DeKalb County to Harold and Nellie Gunsaullus Whysong.

She married Alfred J. Rogers on August 11, 1956 in Helmer, IN. They lived in the Cree Lake area for 51 years. Winters during her retirement years were spent in their Greenbank, WA home, moving there permanently in 2011.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law. Thomas Joseph and Katherine Jeanette (Walker) Rogers of Midlothian, TX; Eric John and Dana Marie (Stone) Rogers of Coupeville, WA; two grandsons, Jared Evan Rogers and Devin Thomas Rogers of Dallas, TX. A brother, Verle D. Whysong, of Colbert WA also survives.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 58 years, Alfred J Rogers on July 16, 2014, her youngest son, Peter James Rogers on February 28, 1995 and her parents and a sister, Doris Thompson.

A Memorial Gathering of Friends will be Friday, December 4, 2015, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.

Private burial is at Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
