Charles Newton "Bud" Smith, 91 of Kendallville died Friday, October 21, 2011, in Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla where he had resided since Monday.

Mr. Smith was a lifetime area resident.

He was the sales manager for Coffey Oldsmobile in Kendallville from 1952 to 1967. He and his wife owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Auburn from 1967 until their retirement in 1980.

Bud was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville.

He was born September 16, 1920, in Kendallville to Claude T. and Nellie M. (Waldron) Smith. On January 23, 1942, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Fairfield, he married Ruth A. Carter.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth A. Smith of Kendallville; three daughters, Melinda "Linda" Napier of Campton, Kentucky, Sherrill "Sherry" Vaughn of Shipshewana, and Pamela "Pam" Hanes of Waterloo; two sons, Charles Carter Smith of Waterloo and Kendall Smith of Kendallville; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; three brothers, Bob (Mary) Smith of Florida, Jim Smith of Fort Wayne, and Bill (Barb) Smith of Columbia City; and a sister-in-law, Doris Smith of Avilla.

He was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Rex Vaughn and Earl Napier; two sisters, Arcille Skelly and Katherine Hasselman; and two brothers, Harold Smith and Lauren Smith.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Paul B. Griebel officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Calling is Tuesday, October 25, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
