Obituary

Carson Dean Shirk, 62, of Atwood Lake, Wolcottville died Sunday, March 20, 2016, in his residence.

He was a graduate of DeKalb High School in Auburn.

Mr. Shirk had worked at the Ball Brass Foundry in Auburn and retired from Kraft Foods in Kendallville. He was currently the groundskeeper at Atwood Lake Campground near Wolcottville.

Carson enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and bonfires. He also liked bowling and playing Bingo.

He was born June 14, 1953, in Auburn to Glenn W. and Ethel May (Starner) Shirk. They preceded him in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Teresa (Gary) Hunter of Kendallville, Terry Shirk of Anderson, Missouri, and Tammy (Jose) Santacruz of Avilla; three sons, Scot (Heather) Shirk of Garrett, Marcus Shirk of LaOtto, and Jacob Shirk of Wolcottville; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Miller of LaGrange and Pat Bornick of Wisconsin; and three brothers, Eugene Shirk of Auburn, Donald (Nancy) Shirk of St. Joe, and Joe (Carol) Shirk of Columbia City.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stacy Shirk; a grandson, Lucas Brown; three sisters, Katherine Camp, Barbara Huyette, and Marilyn Yarde; and a brother, Steven Shirk.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 24, 2016, at 5 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Ron Stambaugh of the Waterloo Freewill Baptist Church officiating. Burial will in Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett at a later date.

Calling is Thursday, March 24, 2016, from 12 to 5 p.m. in the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the family for funeral expenses.
