Carolyn "Sis" Leighton, 62, of Kendallville died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at 1:30 a.m. in her residence with her family at her side.
Mrs. Leighton retired from Teleflex in Kendallville in 2007. She was a member of the Full Gospel Lighthouse in Kendallville.
Carolyn dearly loved the Lord.
She was born October 18, 1947, in Hueysville, Kentucky, to Russell and Tilly (Shepherd) Stevens. On July 1, 1983, in Altona, she married Walter Leighton. He survives in Kendallville.
Also surviving are three daughters and one son-in-law, Robin & Heath Smith of Kendallville, Rhonda Handshoe of Albion, and Jennifer Katt of Ligonier; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Tim Messer of Fort Wayne, T.J. & Amiee Leighton of Leo, Jesse Messer, III & Emily Messer of Kendallville, and Chris & Erica Messer of Auburn; 21 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty & Wayne Gose of LaGrange, Terri "Toby" Lockhart and her friend, Bob Keairnes of Kendallville, and Deborah & Robert Bloomfield of Wolcottville; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Gary "Bo" Stevens of Kendallville, Larry & Joy Stevens of Sturgis, Michigan, Rick & Cindy Stevens of Kendallville, and Jim Stevens of Kendallville; and two special friends, Zeda Hoover and Lucreta Duncan, both of Kendallville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a great granddaughter, Jesslyn Gallo, and her beloved dog, Puddles "Baby Boo".
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at 12 noon in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Pastors Carter & Zaundra Hicks of Full Gospel Lighthouse officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Calling is Tuesday, March 16, 2010, from 2-7 p.m. in the Full Gospel Lighthouse, 112 Veterans Way, Kendallville and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at Young Family Funeral Home.
Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society.
