Carol L. (Jolly) Summers, 93, of Rome City died Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017, in Parkview Noble Hospital.
She was born in Fort Wayne on August 21, 1924, the daughter of James J. and Verne E. (Bliss) Jolly.
On February 17, 1943, in Kendallville she married Eldon James "Jim" Summers, while he was on leave from the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Nearly a lifetime resident of Noble County, she retired in December, 1987 after 23 years as secretary at Rome City Elementary School.
She was Valedictorian of the Rome City High School class of 1942 and a member of BPW International.
Carol enjoyed reading and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Diana Harris of Rome City; three sons, Dr. Richard (Mano) Summers of Summerville, South Carolina, Roger (Judy) Summers of Fort Wayne, and Eldon "Rusty" (Laura Fox) Summers of Missoula, Montana; a sister, Dorothy "Dolly" Chapman of Rome City; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; two sisters, Virginia Kotz and Betty Lockwood; two brothers, James Jolly and Richard Jolly; and a great-granddaughter, Larissa McCorkle.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with the Rev. Shalimar Holderly of Calvary United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.
Calling will be Monday, November 27, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
