Reverend Carl Jacob Ritchie, 78, of Kendallville, Indiana, passed through the cool clear waters into heaven on Friday, May 7, 2021, with family by his side.
He was born December 2, 1942, in Fisty, Kentucky, to William Grant and Daucie Ritchie.
On July 3, 1962, in Stroh, he married Barbara Calhoun. Together they shared 58 years, 10 months, and four days of marriage.
Mr. Ritchie worked for the Rome City School for 30 years as a custodian. He also served as a pastor since 1982. He was pastor of Community Baptist Church near Wolcottville for many years.
Carl's passion was serving the Lord and urging his family and friends to love Him as much as he did. He was a silly poet and loved to tell jokes. Being musically talented, he enjoyed playing music, especially on his guitar.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Barbara Ritchie of Kendallville; two daughters, Brenda Ritchie of Kendallville and Sherry (William) Hess of Charlotte, Michigan; a son, Carl L. "Chuck" (Valerie) Ritchie of Rome City; 11 grandchildren, Rebeka (Brandon) Combs, Amanda (Jeremiah) Huff, Joshua Conley, Sarah (Joseph) Mock, Jacob Rowe, Kari (Josh) Clark, Kyleigh (Caleb Sprunger) Ritchie, Melinda (Drew) Wright, William (Callianne) Hess, David (Amanda) Hess, and Joseph Hess; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Flora Holliday of Rome City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Carly Sue Halferty and Stephanie Conley; two brothers, Dillard Ritchie and Delbert Ritchie; and three sisters, Gail Ritchie, Grethel Ritchie, and Roberta Cornett.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Community Baptist Church with Pastor Wade Sturdivant officiating.
Burial will follow at Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Honorary pallbearer is Joshua Conley. Active pallbearers are Xander Combs, Brandon Combs, Abram Combs, Jacob Rowe, Clark Holliday, Bill McClish and Jeremiah Huff.
Visitation is Monday, May 10, 2021, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church. An evening service will be held at 6 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Preferred memorials may be directed to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville is assisting the family with arrangements.
