Calling: Thursday, July 25, 2013 - after 4 p.m. in the church ************************************************************************** Brenda J. Messer, 56, of Stroh died Monday, July 22, 2013, at 5:35 p.m. in her residence.
She had been in failing health for seven years.
She has lived in this area for 43 years, coming from Kentucky.
Mrs. Messer worked for Group Dekko and International Wire.
She was born November 27, 1956, in Lackey, Kentucky, to Malcolm and Stella F. (Conley) Prater. On August 1, 1974, in Hueysville, Kentucky, she married Cecil Messer. He survives in Stroh.
Also surviving are a son, Christopher Michael Messer of Kendallville; a granddaughter, Abigail Messer of Garrett; five sisters, Shirley Ann Patton of Hindman, Kentucky, Helen (Larry) Howard of Warsaw, Rachel Faye Cox of Wolcottville, Phyllis (Elmer Ray) Bailey of Hippo, Kentucky, and Sara L. Jackson of Kendallville; two brothers, Timmy (Barbara) Prater of Emmalena, Kentucky, and Vincent Lee Prater of Hueysville, Kentucky; a special cousin, Virginia "Doody" Sizemore of Rome City; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Calling is Thursday, July 25, 2013, 4 to 9 p.m. in Mt. Calvary United Baptist Church in Stroh where there will be an evening service at 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. Willie Collins and Rev. Rick Davis officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearer will be Isiaha Perkins. Active pallbearers will be Vincent Prater, Timmy Prater, Larry Howard, Chris Messer, Cory Combs, and Scott DeLong.
Preferred memorials are to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church or the Helmer Independent Baptist Church.
Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
