Blanche C. Knight was born at home in Shelby County, Indiana in 1932, the first child of John and Mary Cheatham with her twin sister, Barbara sharing the day. Both children became seriously ill at 3 months old; Barbara passed away; Blanche survived. Over the years she was joined by sisters, Estelle and Esther as well as brother, Alan.

Blanche was determined to move forward in life and chose to go to Indianapolis General Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated with her RN Diploma in 1954. Eventually she met Charles R. Knight and the two were married in 1956, first settling in southern Indiana and later moving near Jackson, Michigan. They were blessed with 4 children, Ken, Kevin, Shirley Kay and Karen. Blanche stopped working outside the home when her first child was born. She spent her time making sure the children were raised to value education, music and work. She kept busy with church activities and various school activities including very active involvement as a Band Parent.

Blanche returned to the workforce in 1976 as Director of Nursing at Vista Grande Villa Care Center in Jackson, MI. She held this post for 14 years until retirement.

Blanche had always kept busy with handwork and sewing as she raised her family. Around the time of her retirement, she took up quilting and other sewing related crafts. She developed many skills in these areas and became known for her color combinations and careful piecing and machine applique work on the over 125 quilts she made through her last year of life.

As grandchildren also came to join the family, Blanche enjoyed sharing her interests with them, and took great pride in their accomplishments. Great grandchildren completed the family she would know, and she delighted in them. She spent her final years at home near Wolcottville, Indiana.
