Betty L. Welch, 86, of Kendallville died Monday, February 25, 2008, at 12:30 am at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. She had been in failing health for eight years.
Mrs. Welch was a homemaker, and her family was her whole life. She was a charter member of the Moose Lodge No. 1301 Auxiliary. She loved reading, cooking, cleaning house, and traveling. She was proud of the fact that she had resided in her Morton Street home in Kendallville for 68 years.
She was born July 9, 1921, in Kendallville to Arthur "Shorty" and Edna (Griem) Glass. She married Wallace "Mike" Shultz in November 22, 1938, in South Carolina. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1963. She then married Elroy E. Welch in October 15, 1967, in Kendallville. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2000.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Kruger-Wolff of Auburn and Julie Scott of Kendallville; a daughter-in-law, Diana Boyer of Kendallville; 14 grandchildren, Laura and Dennis Eckert, Amy and Paul Pierce, Jennifer and John Anthrup, Molly and Gus Morrow, Babette and James Ball, Michael and Melissa Shultz, Adam Shultz and Courtney White, Brandee and Joseph Lash, Christopher Dieterle, Timothy and Tiffany Dieterle, Quinn Dieterle, Abigail and Jesse Cox, Zane Scott and Staci Wicker, and Fawn Scott; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and one sister, Catherine Febles of California.
She was preceded in death by a son, David A. Shultz in 1989; one sister, Mary Jane Rider in 2002; and a son-in-law, Lawrence Wolff in 2005.
Services will be Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 12:30 pm at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Chaplain Tom Novy of Provena Sacred Heart Home officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Casketbearers will be members of her family.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 27, 2008, from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the donor's choice.
