Obituary

Bethel I. Patterson, 79, of Rome City died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 6:05 a.m. in Shepherd of the Hill, Kendallville.

Mrs. Patterson has lived in Rome City since 1965, coming from Kentucky. She retired from Rome City School as a preschool teacher. She also cared for children in her home for a number of years. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and caring for children.

She was born June 14, 1929, in Hazard, Kentucky, to Marion and Elmira (Smith) Combs. On November 26, 1951, in Kentucky she married James O. Patterson. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2000.

Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim "Sponge-Bob" Patterson of Rome City, Michael and Jennifer Patterson of Albion, and Otis Darrell Patterson of Rome City; two grandsons, Drew Patterson and Jessie Patterson; and a great granddaughter, Kylee Grace Patterson.

She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with Pastor Lee Combs and Pastor Clarence Combs officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.

Casketbearers will be Alonza Combs, Drew Patterson, Jesse Patterson, Howard Patrick, Jerry Combs, Cord Combs, Tyler Miller, and Rick Conley.

Calling will be Friday, March 27, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the American Diabetes Association.
