Obituary

Bertha Kauffman, 88, of Kendallville and formerly of Rome City died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at 5:15 a.m. in Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville.

Mrs. Kauffman has been an area resident since 1959, coming from Illinois. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed cross stitching, quilting, and campfires with her family.

She was a longtime member of the Maple Grove Church in Topeka.

She was born September 24, 1922, in Arcola, Illinois, to David B. and Lizzie (Miller) Herschberger. On October 14, 1941, in Arthur, Illinois, she married Eli K. Kauffman. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1998.

Surviving are three daughters. Anna Mae (Jim) Helmuth of Topeka, Lizzie Ann (Kenneth) Mullet of Nappanee, and Linda Schrock and her friend, Alton Mast of Wolcottville; four sons, Levi (Jan) Kauffman of Topeka, Willard (Alanna) Kauffman of Ligonier, Robert (Debra) Kauffman of Goshen, and Dave (Karen) Kauffman of Wolcottville; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Ann Kaufman of Florida and Anna Mae Graber of Iowa; and two brothers, Eli Herschberger of Florida and Henry Herschberger of Illinois.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Levi Herschberger; a grandson, Todd Kauffman; and a granddaughter, Tara Kauffman.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 18, 2011, at 10 a.m. in the Maple Grove Church, Topeka, with Pastor Harold Gingerich officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Gary Mullet, Greg Mullet, Ryan Kauffman, Nathan Kauffman, Jeff Helmuth, DeWayne Strong, and Rob Shaw.

Calling will be Thursday, March 17, 2011, from 3 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Preferred memorials are to Parkview Noble Hospice or the Maple Grove Church.

Arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.
