Obituary

Bertha Conley, 89, of Stroh died at 2:15 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2007, in Provena Sacred Heart Home, Avilla. She was born August 26, 1917, in Knott County, Kentucky to Jack & Lona (Bailey) Handshoe. She had worked for many years at McCray Refrigeration in Kendallville and then Transogram in Sturgis, Michigan. She was a former member of the True Church of God and enjoyed gardening and canning. She was married September 5, 1935, in Knott County, Kentucky, to Chick Conley. Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Pauline J. & Stuart Piner of Wilmington, North Carolina and Irene Summers of Auburn; two sons, Harold J. Conley of Angola and Darrell Conley of Stroh; six grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren; and two half sisters, Glenna Gibson and Myrtle Bailey, both of Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 14, 1986, one daughter, Colleen Collins, one grandson, four brothers, four sisters, and two sons-in-law. Services will be Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at 1 p.m. at the Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, with Rev. Glen Patrick officiating. Burial will be in Woodruff Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 19, 2007, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to American Lung Association.
