Obituary

Barbara A. Slone, 65, of Rome City died Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at her residence.

She was born November 13, 1954, in Garrett, Kentucky, to Jay and Delzy (Chaffins) Tuttle. They preceded her in death.

On September 29, 1990, at Salem United Baptist Church she married Oscar Slone. He survives in Rome City.

Mrs. Slone attended Salem United Baptist Church.

She had worked at Starcraft in Emma and Topeka and, later, at Dexter Axle in Albion.

Barbara enjoyed flowers and collecting donkeys. She frequently stated that her husband, Oscar was the first donkey in her collection. She was well-known for her cooking, especially chicken and dumplings. And, she dearly loved her family.

Also surviving are five sons, Larry Christopher (Stephanie) Bailey of Wawaka, Jay (Tami) Bailey of Stroh, David Oscar (Gwen) Slone of Pleasant Lake, Stephen (Melanie) Slone of Garner, Kentucky, and Stacey (Leslie) Slone of Panama City, Florida; a daughter, Corinne Perkins of Rome City;14 grandchildren, Jaylyn Bailey, Kaytlyn Bailey, Charity Slone, Alex Slone, Matthew Slone, Andrew Slone, Delzy Chilcote, Autumn Chilcote, Vincent Chilcote, Faith Slone, Lindsay Miller, JJ Miller, Anthony Martin, and Dustin Martin; a great grandson, Sebastian Dalton; three brothers, Billy (Betty) Tuttle of Hudson, Harvey (Ruthie) Tuttle of LaGrange, and Rodney (Helen) Tuttle of Garett, Kentucky; and three sisters, Nadine (Billy Ray) Powers of Howe; Ruby (Klinon) Newsome of Grethel, Kentucky, and Cindi (Mike Handley) Tuttle of Kendallville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two granddaughters, her angel Samantha Bailey and Caitlyn Martin; a grandson, Bart Thompson; two brothers, Isom Tuttle and Marvin Tuttle; and two sisters, Irene Moore and Edna Tuttle.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 9, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Salem United Baptist Church, 8227 N State Road 9, Kendallville with Pastor Glen Jackson and Pastor Daryl Slone officiating. Burial will follow at Orange Township Cemetery, Rome City.

Pallbearers are Alex Slone, Terry Tuttle, Shawn Tuttle, Jeffrey Tuttle, Travis Moore, and Jeff Miller.

Calling is Saturday, March 7, 2020, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville. Calling will also be Sunday, March 8, 2020, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Salem United Baptist Church and one hour prior to the service on Monday. An evening service will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. at the church.
