Obituary

Austin Slone, 80, of Wolcottville died Wednesday, March 30, 2016, in Parkview LaGrange Hospital, LaGrange.

He had lived in this area for 60 years, coming from Kentucky.

Mr. Slone retired from the maintenance department of Starcraft in Topeka after 30 years.

He proudly served on the Johnson Township Fire Department in Wolcottville for over 30 years.

Austin enjoyed mowing the lawn, making bird houses, and doing crossword puzzles. He especially loved his dogs, Daphne and Lillian.

He was born August 9, 1935, in Wayland, Kentucky, to Amos and Corsie (Ritchie) Slone.

On December 16, 1954, in Henderson, Kentucky, he married Elmetta Terry. She survives in Wolcottville.

Also surviving are a daughter, Sandra (Steven) Weyer of South Bend; three sons, Vince Slone of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Joey Slone of Howe, and Bobby Slone of Grand Rapids, Michigan; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Daisy (Al) Amburgey of LaGrange.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Austin Slone; three sisters, Brookie Click, Beulah Grigsby, and Geneva Lawson; and three brothers, L.D. Slone, Cullen Slone, and Corbet Slone.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 4, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Pastor Clarence Combs of Five Corners Baptist Church in Wolcottville officiating. Burial will be in Woodruff Cemetery.

Calling is Sunday, April 3, 2016, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the Johnson Township Fire Department.
