Obituary

Arthur J. Litchfield, 75, of Rome City died Monday, August 30, 2010, at 12:55 p.m. in his residence.

Mr. Litchfield had lived at Sylvan Lake for 16 years, coming from Fort Wayne. He was a 1953 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne.

He had worked at City Utilities in Fort Wayne. He retired in 1997 from Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 166, and had been a member of the union for 54 years.

He served in the Indiana Air National Guard for 8 1/2 years. He was a member of the Men's Auxiliary of VFW Post 2749 and Sons of the American Legion Post 381.

He was a member of St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome City and Knights of Columbus Council No. 7839, Kendallville.

He was instrumental in raising funds for Bishop Luers High School in Fort Wayne to build and maintain the football field. He sold cards at the bingo games and helped build Luersfield itself.

He enjoyed fishing and football, and dearly loved his grandchildren.

He was born July 20, 1935, in Fort Wayne to Evert and Julia (Bobay) Litchfield. On July 9, 1955, in Fort Wayne he married Jacqueline Beaty.

Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Litchfield of Rome City; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and William Vorndran of Auburn, Nancy and Gilbert Roux of Billerica, Massachusetts, and Karen and Mike Roesler of Fort Wayne; four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Katy Litchfield of Fort Wayne, Steve and Kara Litchfield of New Haven, Mark and Wendy Litchfield of Fort Wayne, and Michael and Shannon Litchfield of Jamestown, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Ilene Happ of Montgomery, Michigan, Dorothy Hensinger of Fort Wayne, and Lucille Smith of Fort Wayne; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Litchfield of Fort Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia Minich; and a brother, Donald Litchfield.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 3, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome City, with co-celebrants Father Bernard Ramenaden and Father Joseph Gaughan officiating. Burial will be in St. Gaspar Catholic Cemetery.

Calling is Thursday, September 2, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. A rosary service will be conducted at 8 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7839. Calling will also be on Friday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.

Preferred memorials are to Redeemer Radio, the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, or Masses to the church.

Arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.
