Annegret Mertz, 99, of Waterloo, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the home of her son near Corunna.
She was born January 6, 1926, in Meckelstedt, Germany, to Deitrich and Mathilda (Meinken) Kessner.
She and her husband, Kenneth owned a dairy farm for many years and were a part of the Fairfield Township community.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.
Annegret enjoyed gardening very much. Growing flowers, fruits, and vegetable were her passion. She also enjoyed time spent with her family and friends.
Surviving are a daughter, Annetta (Andy) Place of Mishawaka; a son, John (Lucy) Mertz of Corunna; grandchildren, Angela (Scott Comparato) Reinoehl of Carbondale, Illinois, Brandon Reinoehl of Bertram, Texas, James Wineland of Sacramento, California, Tamara Rogers of Sacramento, California, Inga Burgdorf of Sacramento, California, Melissa Collingsworth of Auburn, David Mertz of Corunna, and Jennifer (Jason Wallace) Mertz of Butler; step-grandchildren, Andy (Nicole) Place, Jr. of South Bend, Lindsey (Ben) Downey of South Bend; Dale Potts of Corunna and Rob (Lynsie) Potts of Corunna; 24 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and a sister, Inga Seifert of Frankfort, Germany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Mertz; a daughter, Bernice Gurr; a sister, Karola Self; a brother, Helmut Kessner; and a grandson-in-law, Michael Collingsworth.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Hudson-Ashley Chapel, 612 North Main Street, Hudson and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
The funeral service will be Friday, January 17, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Stark of Zion Lutheran Church, West Fairfield officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers are David Mertz, Jason Wallace, Dale Potts, Robert Potts, Chad Potts, and Danny Mason.
